Having a properly planned garden before you ever plunge your shovel into the earth can save you costly, frustrating, and time-consuming mistakes. But planning a garden that works for your environment and your particular property isn’t as easy as it may sound. Variables such as exposure to sun and wind, soil depth and quality, and realistic maintenance expectations can make a huge difference. Additionally, if you’re doing any development on the water, you will need your garden plan approved by the Muskoka Watershed Council before you can proceed.
At Lake of Bays Garden Centre, we employ two certified horticulturalists—Hilary and Lynn—who have the depth of knowledge to answer any questions you have on gardening in Muskoka-Haliburton. They’ll advise you on the array of plants, trees, and shrubs that are native to, and thrive in, this area, and which can be used to prevent erosion, improve water quality, and fend off invasive species.
Emily will draw up a garden plan. This way, with a little guidance, your garden can be the beautiful, relaxing, and uplifting space you have dreamed of while also being practical and easy to manage. We also work with the Township of Lake of Bays on creating a native shore line at your cottage.
